We have all seen those antiques and art programmes on the television where someone says I found this in the loft and wondered if it was worth anything. The expert looks stunned and their mouth drops open, but no words are heard. Then they collect their composure. The object turns out to be the long lost work of a great master. The expert says that they should now get it authenticated, but they never tell you where or by whom this should be done. Well here is a possible start.
The National Gallery, London hold an Open Surgery on Wednesday afternoons between 2 and 5 pm when the Curator will look over pictures brought in. Send a photograph and any information that you have beforehand. On arrival go to the reception desk and they will direct you to where the surgery is being held.
